As a fan of modernist literature, it’s hard not to find joy in Vorpuni’s work. His characters sometimes break the fourth wall; as well, some of his scenes are narrated through shifting perspectives and alternate moments in time. These techniques are on full display in Room for Rent. The story is a fairly common trope in modernist literature, of a lost man threatened from all sides by work, machinery, and class struggles. But it also introduces some rather risqué moments that are not commonly found in Armenian literature.
